One of the best places in Scotland for photographing leaping fish is Buchanty Spout on the river Almond, a tributary of the Tay. The falls here are very narrow which makes the task of trying to focus on a leaping salmon a bit easier.
Of course timing is everything, and you can easily go there and not see a fish or see hundreds of fish. These pictures were taken in October 2017 which wasn’t the best run of fish.
So usually with leaping salmon you are inevitably scrapping a lot of pictures and only pick the very best, however in 2017 I didn’t really have that luxury as there were few fish – so these are the best of a bad bunch.
